January 26: UMF agitation starts over non-implementation of 22-point charter of demands, which was signed between the government and MJF.

 

February 9: UDMF formed

 

February 16: The Nepal Sadbhawna Party (Anandi) quits the SPA government, alleging the latter ignored Madhesi demands.

 

February 28: The government signed an eight-point agreement with the UDMF.

 

March 21: The government invites the armed outfits in the Tarai for a dialogue.

 

April 10: CA polls held in a peaceful manner across the nation.

 

June 26: Madhesi parties demonstrate in the rostrum over the Fifth Amendment Bill.

 

July 9: Madhesi parties boycott the tabling of Fifth Amendment Bill in legislature-parliament.

 

July 13: Madhesi parties abstain during the voting of the Fifth Amendment Bill.

 

July 17: Maoist candidate Ram Raja Prasad Singh, NC nominee Dr Ram Baran Yadav and UML’s choice Ram Prit Paswan file nomination for the post of president.

 

July 21: Dr Ram Baran Yadav and Parmanand Jha become the nation’s first president and the vice-president, respectively. The duo is the first Madhesis to assume the highest offices.

 

August 22: The MJF,the largest Madhesi party, joins the Maoist-led government.

 

August 30: Tarai Army chief Mr John killed in police action. He was the first head of an armed outfit to be killed in an encounter.

 

December 1: TMDP submits a charter of 11-point demand to the PM.

 

December 11: The government holds dialogue with Madhesi Virus Killers (MVK), an armed Tarai group, and reach a four-point preliminary agreement. The MVK is the first outfit to hold peace talks with the government.

 

December 19: The TMDP announces launch of nationwide protest programmes from January.
