Fin Min bats for new statute keeping economic agenda in centre

KATHMANDU: Minister for Finance Dr Ramsharan Mahat said that a new constitution should be drafted with a focus on economic agendas.

Minister Dr Mahat made the statement during a meeting of the 16th Annual General Assembly of the Society of Economic Journalists-Nepal (SEJON) in the Capital today.

"The need of the hour is how to promote economy, how to create investment-friendly environment and how to increase the productions," he said.

Opining that a lot of time has been spent, entangling on political and emotive issues during the constitution promulgation process, the Finance Minister argued that journalism should also focus on economic agendas.

He believed that the economic journalism in Nepal would assume greater height in the future.

Minister Mahat further argued that one should infringe other's rights while raising the issues for one's rights.

Similarly, Prime Minister's press advisor and founding Chair of SEJON Prateek Pradhan suggested that economic journalism should take stride and come in forefront in Nepal's journalism sector.

On the occasion, President of Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) Pashupati Murarka and Chairperson of SEJON Bigyan Bibhu Adhikari asserted that economic journalism could significantly contribute to the country's economic development.

The AGM would elect a new working committee of the SEJON.
