KATHMANDU: Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) has taken an initiative to resolve the country's economic problems, following India's unofficial blockade and ongoing protest in the Tarai.

Following the failure of government to yield any positive results out of various talks with agitating groups earlier, the FNCCI has started holding consultations, with various political parties, civil society and people from various walks of life, on existing constitutional concerns, challenges and solution to sort out the crisis, FNCCI representatives said.

They are hopeful of fruitful results from the initiaves.

The FNCCI said that it has joined hands to do something needful to give the country a way out of the impasse, resulting in a crisis of essentials, petroleum products and medicines across the country.

They said that the crisis has crippled country's economy with a loss of more than Rs 10 billion so far and the situation may be daunting in the days to come if the crisis persists.

As a part of its drive, the FNCCI recently organised an interaction in Lalitpur, where political leaders of various ruling and opposition political parties shared their views on the present crisis of the country and seeking solution to it.

Speaking at the event, Nepali Congress leader and former Minister for Information and Communications, Minendra Rijal urged the leadership of the protest to make the agitation peaceful so that it should not disrupt social harmony.

Likewise, CPN-UML Secretary Yogesh Bhattarai said that the existing problems of the nation should be resolved through talks.

UCPN-Maoist leader Ram Narayan Bidari said that there is a risk of the agitations going beyond the leadership's control.

Likewise, protesting Tarai Madhes Democratic Party leader Brijesh Kumar Gupta said that it was imperative to acknowledge the ongoing protest for the rights of Madhesi people and that it may prolong in lack of discipline and faith among political parties.
