Footwear and Leather Goods Expo from Dec 28

Kathmandu, December 12

The 14th edition of the Footwear and Leather Goods Exhibition is going to be held in the Capital from December 28.

Issuing a press statement today, Footwear Manufacturers’ Association of Nepal (FMAN) — the organiser of the event — said that the six-day event will focus on promoting domestic footwear and leather products in both domestic and foreign markets.

Ravi Kumar Shrestha, president of FMAN, informed that the exhibition this year will be based on the theme of ‘increasing consumption of domestic goods to become self-reliant’.

“Trade deficit of the country has been increasing every year. The only way to balance trade is by boosting domestic production of goods and increasing consumption of domestic products accordingly,” said Shrestha.

According to him, the exhibition will primarily focus on promoting domestic leather products and footwear and unleash their export potentials.

“Nepali footwear and leather products are competitive in terms of both quality and price. If the government gives priority to promote footwear industry, Nepal can surely substitute import of footwear and leather products,” said Shrestha.

FMAN informed that domestic leather and footwear manufacturers will display their products through over 125 stalls in the expo this year. Of the planned stalls, almost 70 stalls have been booked so far, according to organisers.
