Government readying DPR of a model tourist destination in each province

Kathmandu, April 26

In a bid to promote tourism equally in every province, the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoCTCA) is preparing the detailed project report (DPR) of one model tourist destination each in all seven provinces.

As envisioned in the 100-day action plan of MoCTCA unveiled on March 31, the government has identified seven popular destinations (one each in every province) and is preparing the DPR of each destination to promote them further.

MoCTCA has already announced to promote Ilam headquarter (Province 1), Dhanusadham (Province 2), Indrasarobar Lake (Province 3), Panchese (Province 4), Devdaha (Province 5), Rara Lake (Province 6) and Kailali Bhadgaun (Province 7) as model tourist destinations in Nepal.

Speaking during the review meeting of the 100-day action plan of MoCTCA today, Dandu Raj Ghimire, chief of planning and analysis division at MoCTCA, informed that a preliminary draft of the DPR of each model tourist destination will be finalised within the next 15 days.

Similarly, Ghimire also informed that MoCTCA is in the final stage of preparing a master plan to promote religious sites like Muktinath and Sworgadwari.

Also making a presentation during the review meeting, Rajkumar Chhetri, general manager of Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), informed that upgrading services and terminal infrastructure at TIA is underway as announced in the 100-day action plan of MoCTCA.

“Regarding extending flight operational hours at TIA, we are planning to operate the airport for at least 21 hours a day from May 21,” he said.

Similarly, Sugat Ratna Kansakar, managing director of Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC), said that the process to procure new Twin Otter planes has been expedited as announced in the action plan of MoCTCA.
