Govt urges public to promote VNY 2020

Kathmandu, August 11

Amid growing criticism from the tourism fraternity regarding the sluggish preparations for the Visit Nepal Year (VNY) 2020, the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoCTCA) today appealed to the public to promote the tourism campaign from their side.

Issuing a press statement, MoCTCA has urged the public to promote the tourism campaign especially by placing the logo of VNY 2020 on social media networks — Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other websites — of an individual or an institution.

“Nepal is observing 2020 as Visit Nepal Year to promote Nepali tourism, including its culture, adventurous sports and other peculiarities in the global market. In this context, we seek support from all quarters,” reads the MoCT- CA statement.

MoCTCA believes that promotion of the tourism campaign through social media of individuals and institutions will be crucial in spreading information about the campaign among global travellers.

Along with this, MoCTCA has also informed that it will introduce different other schemes for foreign tourists targeting the tourism campaign.

“Our tourism products and packages should be competitive in a bid to attract foreign tourists. The government will introduce certain packages for tourists before the commencement of the tourism campaign next year,” Yogesh Bhattarai, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation had told The Himalayan Times a week ago in an interview.

Moreover, Bhattarai had hinted the scheme could also include waiving off the visa fee for foreign tourists throughout the year.

Meanwhile, Suraj Vaidya, coordinator of Visit Nepal Year 2020 campaign, has been saying that strong support and commitment from all quarters is crucial for the tourism campaign to be successful. Citing that the VNY 2020 will build a roadmap to improve the country’s tourism industry, Vaidya has been saying that the tourism campaign should not be limited to next year only.
