Investors Forum urges government to appoint Nepse GM

Kathmandu, September 18

Nepal Investors Forum — an organisation of stock market investors — has urged the government to appoint general manager of Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) at the earliest.

Issuing a press release today, Nepal Investors Forum has urged the government to appoint an experienced and qualified person as general manager of Nepse, who can take the capital market to new heights. “A qualified person should be appointed as the general manager of the country’s sole capital market,” Bachchuram Rimal, general secretary of the organisation, said.

The post has remained vacant after the tenure of former general manager Sitaram Thapaliya ended on July 7. The Ministry of Finance (MoF) is in the process of selecting the new general manager. According to MoF officials, five candidates have been short-listed out of the 15 applicants for the post.

MoF plans to finalise the process soon. The Cabinet will appoint the general manager of Nepse as per recommendation of selection committee formed by MoF, coordinated by its Joint Secretary Uttar Kumar Khatri.

Meanwhile, the Nepal Investors Forum has selected Ambika Prasad Paudel as the chairman of the organisation unanimously. After resignation of former chairman Atma Ram Ghimire, Paudel has been selected as the chairman of the organisation for the remaining period.

Similarly, Chhotelal Rauniyar has been selected as vice chairman and Anjiv Tuladhar and Atit Lal Shrestha have been selected as executive committee members of the organisation.
