NTA warns eight ISPs to clear royalty dues

Kathmandu, April 5

The Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) has warned eight internet service providers (ISPs) to clear their outstanding royalty fees within Monday.

Citing that these ISPs have not approached NTA to clear their pending royalty fees despite repeated calls, the telecommunication authority today said that it will initiate legal action against them if they are unable to clear royalty fees within the given deadline.

As per NTA provision, all the ISPs are required to pay four per cent of their annual revenue to the government as royalty fee.

As per a notice published on NTA's website, Vianet Communications of Jawalakhel, Broadlink Network and Communications of Sanepa, Net Max Technologies of Anamnagar, Classic Tech of New Baneshwor, Itel Communications of Jawalakhel, Allied Netlink Technology of Maharajgunj, I4 Technologies of Kamaladi and IBSS Nepal of Old Baneshwor are the eight ISPs that have not cleared their royalty fees to the government.

Min Prasad Aryal, spokesperson for NTA, informed that action will be taken against these ISPs as per the Telecommunications Act of 1997 if they fail to clear their dues within the given deadline. He informed that NTA can even scrap their licences if the ISPs fail to clear dues on time as provisioned in the Telecommunications Act.
