NEPSE continues downward spiral as indices extend 0.86 per cent loss

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) which is free-falling off late has suffered a double digit plunge on Thursday, the last trading day of the week. Moreover, the indices of the traded sectors extended losses by 0.86 per cent as the market closed at 1220.44 points.

The secondary market which has witnessed selling pressure since the past few weeks dropped to a new low in two years after it went down by 10.63 points on Thursday.

On the previous trading day, the Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index plunged by 24.4 points or 1.94 per cent to 1,231.07 points, which is the lowest after February 1, 2016, when it had closed at 1,238.02 points.

In the secondary market on Thursday, a total of 1,088,157 shares of 158 companies were traded with turnover amounting to Rs 441.64 million.

In the previous week, Nepse began trading at 1,315.13 points and the benchmark index had plunged by 31.04 points to retreat below the psychological level of 1,300 points.
