Kathmandu, November 28

To address the gaps in credible research and studies on socio-economic, policies, institutional and political research, prominent economists of the country β€” Prof Bishwambher Pyakuryal, Prof Madan Dahal and Prof Govinda Nepal have set up a new think-tank named Institute for Strategic and Socio-Economic Research (ISSR).

The think-tank, which has given top priority to working in collaboration with the government as well as regional- and global-level institutions, was inaugurated today by Speaker of the Parliament Onsari Gharti Magar.

Inaugurating the ISSR, Speaker Gharti Magar said that the newly born think-tank will be able to offer virtuous suggestions to the stakeholders, including the parliament, in conformity with the ground reality of the country and help to customise the international learning in order to fit into Nepali context. She also expressed thanks for the team of ISSR for providing their initial research on economic viability of the proposed federal units.

She highlighted that the country needs to make huge investment and strengthen the institutional capacity to bring to practice all socio-economic rights enshrined in the constitution of the country. β€œIn this regard, ISSR will provide guidance through studies and research so that the government and other stakeholders would be able to make the right intervention at the right time to move forward,” she said.

Pyakuryal, chairman of the ISSR, highlighted that the institute will conduct trust-worthy, need-based and diagnostic studies that can contribute to the mission of achieving high, broad-based, inclusive and sustainable development. He further said that the ISSR will work with only credible institutes, researchers and policymakers and private sector entrepreneurs and promote the public understanding of research by encouraging innovation and growth.
