No obstacle to bring money from abroad: Deputy governor

Kathmandu, June 7

Deputy Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), Chintamani Siwakoti, has said that there are no problems in bringing foreign capital to invest in Nepal.

During a programme organised by Nepal SBI Bank here today, Siwakoti further said that foreign joint-venture banks are allowed to bring in capital as well as technology and human resources from abroad.

“The government is planning to open a bank account for every citizen of the nation and we hope that the banks also play an active role to materialise that plan,” he added.

Deputy Governor Siwakoti was speaking on the occasion of the 25th year of establishment of Nepal SBI Bank in Nepal. The bank also formally inaugurated three new branches in Dailekh, Sankhuwasabha and Pyuthan today.

“We’re committed to applying modern technology to further enhance digital banking system,” said Sujit Kumar Varma, chairman of the bank. In fact, Nepal SBI Bank had installed a robot in July last year at its Durbarmarg branch. The robot named ‘Pari’ guides the customers for different banking transactions.

Varma further said that the bank is looking forward to diversifying its banking facilities and boost financial inclusion in Nepal.

Anukool Bhatnagar, chief executive officer of the bank, said that the bank is now focused on investing in Nepal’s hydropower sector to support the policies framed by the government.
