KATHMANDU: The construction of petroleum product pipeline project, from Raxaul of India to Amlekhganj of Nepal, will begin in next four months.

An agreement was signed between Nepal and India to construct the 37.5-km cross-border pipeline in order facilitate the smooth supply of petroleum products in Nepal.

The project is estimated to cost around RS 2. 75 billion. India will bear Rs 2 billion while Nepal will put in Rs 750 million of the project.

Meanwhile, Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) said the process and procedure, including survey of soil and hydrological test of Sirsiya River, the main construction site, has reached its final stage.

NOC spokesperson Bhanu Bhakta Khanal said some technical study will be carried out after the Detailed Project Report is received by September 10.

Khanal further said that the government has to provide 33.6 hectare of land for the construction of the project.
