SEJON elects new executive committee

Kathmandu, August 28

The 16th annual general meeting of the Society of Economic Journalists Nepal has elected Gokarna Awasthi, business bureau chief of Kantipur Daily as president for the new term. Awasthi is the ninth president of SEJON and will serve at the helm of SEJON for the next two years.

The Himalayan Times journo Pushpa Raj Acharya has been elected as SEJON’s vice president, Modnath Dhakal of The Rising Nepal as general secretary, Ramraja Shrestha of bizkhabar.com (online) as secretary and Bhim Gautam of Rajdhani Daily as the treasurer.

Likewise, Saraswoti Dhakal of Karobar Economic Daily, Anil Pariyar (Kantipur FM), Bhagwat Bhattarai (Mountain TV), Sabin Mishra (bizmandu.com) and Sujan Oli (Nagarik Daily) have been elected as members. The executive committee is authorised to appoint two other members from the mainstream media.

SEJON was established in 1998 under the founding chairmanship of Prateek Pradhan, who is currently press advisor to the prime minister. SEJON is dedicated for the capacity enhancement of the economic journalists associated with print, electronics and online media. Altogether 249 members of the press are associated with SEJON.
