Nepathya enthralls Nepali diasporas in New Zealand

KATHMANDU: The popular Nepali band Nepathya elated the audience with the folk-rock genre in their first concert in Kiwi Island in Auckland, New Zealand on Friday.

With the Auckland show, Nepathya wrapped up their tour, which started from Melbourne and moved on to Adelaide and Sydney before concluding in Auckland.

“I am glad that the first international tour of our silver jubilee celebration was received well. I want to thank all those who were involved in organising the shows, our audiences and well-wishers,” said Nepathya frontman Amrit Gurung.

"We will now head back home to prepare for releasing a new song soon," he revealed.

Estimates say there are approximately 5000 Nepalese living in Auckland. Apart from Auckland, Nepalese concentration is also found in Christchurch. However, the first and major connection between Nepalis and the Kiwis has been Everest and Sir Edmund Hillary.

"The concert was the first Nepali show of this magnitude in New Zealand," said Raj Maharjan of the organizing team.

"Nepathya’s concert has become a benchmark for the quality of future Nepali shows in New Zealand" he added.

Gurung was accompanied on stage by Dhruba Lama on drums, Suraj Thapa on Keyboards, Subin Shakya on bass, Niraj Gurung on guitars and Shanti Rayamajhi on percussion.

The band is scheduled to return to Nepal on August 1.
