Nepathya rocks Nepali diaspora at NYC's Manhattan Center

KATHMANDU: With the theme “Music for Unity”, popular Nepali band Nepathya performed at the Hammerstein Ballroom of the Manhattan Center.

Hundreds of members of the Nepali diaspora living in the US and other music lovers attended the concert that continued for two hours on Saturday evening.

Front man Amrit Gurung chose 'Nase Chyaba’ to begin his maiden show in New York. He performed other popular numbers including Gopal Prasad Rimal's ‘Rato ra Chandra Surya’ urging the Nepali community to remain united in the wake of devastating earthquake and deepening political polarisation back home.

“I have seen Nepali societies become more fragmented,” Gurung said, “I request Nepalis living all over the world to remain united.”

Gurung mentioned that his band was performing in New York coinciding with Janai Purnima and recalled his visit to Gosainkunda of Rasuwa district.

“Today is Janai Purnima, there is a place called Gosaikunda which is a shrine related to this occasion. We had travelled around this area while working for a song.”

“Most of the structures we took shelter in during the travel does not exist anymore after the earthquake. Hence to help these villages I request all to visit these places,” he added. “You could come back to Nepal and help in nation rebuilding by visiting the affected areas.”
