Play against child labour

KATHMANDU: Marking the World Day Against Child Labour, Shailee Theatre and CWISH Nepal jointly organised a forum theatre in 20 places in and around Kathmandu Valley. The play staged from June 8-12 aimed to raise awareness about child labour, stated a press release issued by Shailee Theatre.

The play narrates a story of an 11-year-old boy Yugal (Simanta Pudasaini) from a village in Nuwakot who is living with his mother and three siblings. It is difficult for him to get education because of his poverty. When he becomes unable to buy education materials and uniform, he is brought to Kathmandu and sold as labour in a meat shop. The play narrates his struggles of working in a butcher’s shop. It also features actors Sahin Prajapati, Saurav Dhakal, Sapana Sanjibani, Samir Khanal, and Rashi Chhetri among others.

“It is our responsibility to stop child labour and supply chains. Aiming to stop such activities, we have staged this play,” the statement quoted Aryan Neupane, Programme Coordinator of Shailee, and writer and director of the play, as saying.
