KATHMANDU: A four-year-old love affair gone sour resulted in the gruesome murder of a college girl.

Twenty-one-year-old Rosy Maharjan’s cold-blooded murder masterminded by Subhash Uprety (21) of New Baneshwor, came to light after a police squad led by DSP Hridaya Thapa discovered her decomposing body in Simpani Bhanjyang jungle at Nallu, Lalitpur, today morning.

Rosy had gone missing since June 20.

SSP Hemant Malla Thakuri informed that Rosy was shot on the right temple.

Rajiv Maharjan, Rosy’s elder brother, sought police help when his sister, who had gone to college at 9:30 am, did not return till evening and he received a shocking text message that read, “Give us ransom of Rs three million by tomorrow noon or your Rosy will be shot dead. The shooting will be filmed and circulated at around 7:25 pm that day.”

Rajiv and his father Govinda operate catering houses in Kathmandu and Lalitpur.

“Subhash had used Rosy’s mobile phone in an attempt to extort money from her family hours after she was shot dead,” revealed SSP Thakuri.

Rosy, a resident of Kupandole, Lalitpur, was a BBA third-year student at Nepal College of Management (NCM), Dhobighat.

Police have rounded up Subhash and his accomplices Sanchit Khadka (20) of Thasikhel, Lalitpur and Husain Rai (20) of Kaku- 2, Solukhumbu.

“Subhash had sweet-talked Rosy into going to Nallu on a motorcycle with him at around 11:00 am. But before that, he had already sent Sanchit and two hired gunmen Kumar Tamang (24) of Thasikhel and Raju Lohar (23) of Lalbandi, Sarlahi, to the crime scene,” informed SSP Thakuri.

Tamang and Lohar, also said to be traders in small arms, are at large.

When Subhash and Rosy reached the jungle, Raju shot her on the right temple. They dumped the body in a bush and fled the scene.

Investigation suggests that Subhash had ganged up with Kumar and Raju to carry out the murder and extort Rs 10 million from Rosy’s family. “He said he had killed her because she had been unfaithful to him,” said an investigator.

DSP Thapa said Subhash had sold his motorcycle for Rs 185,000 to pay the hired gunmen. “He paid Rs 25,000 to Raju and Kumar as advance and then Rs 150,000 after the work was done.”

Police have found the motorcycle (Ba 29 Pa 6506) used in the crime, Rosy’s scooter (Ba 32 Pa 9193) from the parking lot at Pulchowk-based Nabil Bank and two 7.65 calibre bullets from Kumar’s rented room in Thasikhel.

Subhash had first met her at Dhobighat-based Nepal College of Management as an 11th grader. He went to the UK for further studies, but returned four months ago without completing the business administration course.
