SARLAHI: Minister for Commerce and Supply Rajendra Mahato said today that a fresh mandate would be necessary if the Constituent Assembly failed to promulgate the constitution in the remaining 46 days.

Speaking at a press meet in Malangawa, minister Mahato said, “If the new statute is not written, the Madhesi people will suffer the most, but if the country opts for a fresh mandate, the UCPN-Maoist will be in peril”.

Mahato said it was unfortunate that the big three parties have not reached consensus even though the deadline for promulgation of the constitution is fast approaching.

Emphasizing the need for consensus to draft the constitution instead of engaging in toppling the government, Mahato stated it was necessary to integrate Maoist combatants, return seized properties to the rightful owners and dismantle the paramilitary structure of YCL prior to forming a new consensus government.
