KATHMANDU: CPN-UML General Secretary Ishwor Pokharel claimed that President Dr Ram Baran Yadav posses no constitutional right to intervene while parties are struggling hard to forge consensus on prickly issues.
UML’s leader Pokhrel said so only a day after the head of the state reprimanded political stakeholders, and warned of a probable presidential intervention if they did not forge consensus by the time of their self-imposed deadline.

“President can only direct parties to inch closer to understanding but has no right to intervene ,” said Pokharel on Sunday morning while talking to a Kathmandu-based Radio FM.
Parties failed to meet their self-imposed first deadline of September 15 and they are not likely to forge consensus by the second deadline — October 16 — set by them before the President.
According to Pokharel a national unity government has no alternative.
Pokharel said that his party has also directed the Standing Committee members not to lobby for the CA reinstatement as UML finds poll as a best option.
