Baghchowk with statue of tiger in Thakurdwara

BARDIYA: In a bid to make aware people for the conservation of tigers, a statue of a tiger has been constructed on the midway of Thakurdwara bazaar in Bardiya district. Artist Rudra Sunar prepared the statue of the tiger. This is the first of its kind having a chowk with the statue of an animal in the mid and far west regions.

The statue is nearly equal to a tiger in size and has been kept at the height of two metres from the surface level.

The statue was prepared with the initiative of a woman sub-committee under the Thakurababa Consumers' Committee.

The statue has been placed before the Thakurbaba Temple at the center of Thakurdwara Bhurigaun road section.

Thakurbaba Temple Management Committee Chairman Rudra Khadka said that a chowk was built by keeping a tiger statue in order to conserve the tigers inside the Bardiya National Park.

Some Rs 400,000 was spent for the construction of the statue with Rs 300,000 support from Chisapani Area Tourism Promotion and Development Committee, locals' voluntary services and Temple Management Committee.
