KATHMANDU : A delegation comprising Dalit Constituent Assembly (CA) members called on Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai on Saturday and demanded proportional representation of Dalits in election-related provision to be enshrined in the new constitution.
The delegation including CA member Binod Pahadi, Vice-chairperson of Excluded, Oppressed and Dalit Class Development Committee Khem Biswokarma, Member-Secretary of National Dalit Commission, Bhuwan Biswokarma, Chairperson of Jagaran Media Centre, Rem Biswokarma, among others, recommended incorporating the issues such as education, health and employment of Dalit as the fundamental rights in the new constitution.
On the occasion, Prime Minister Dr Bhattarai pledged to ensure the rights of oppressed, Dalit and Madhesi in the new Constitution and expressed the hope that proportional representation of Dalit in every state agency would become a reality.
'Overall social, political and cultural development is a must for the advancement of Dalit community', the Prime Minister said.
He said there is no alternative to moving ahead with consensus and collaboration among like-minded sides to complete the twin tasks of peace and constitution.
On the occasion the Prime Minister said genuine landless squatters would not be removed from their existing residence.
'I am committed to resolving the problems of the martyr's families', the Prime Minister added.
