DAMAK: The people of Jhapa have protested the government decision to prevent them from selling lands distributed by the landless squatters' problems resolution districts committee.
Locals of Lakhanpur and Satasidham on Tuesday submitted a memorandum to the bodies concerned demanding that the decision be taken back.
The Lakahnpur folks submitted the protest letter to the Damak-based area administration office and revenue office whereas the Satasidham folks reached the District Administration Office and District Revenue Office demanding the withdrawal of the decision.
The Cabinet meeting on July 12 had issued a circular to the revenue offices across the country directing to halt the selling of distributed land until and unless the problems related to landless squatters are resolved.
The irate people have accused the government of curtailing peasants' right to use their property. The chiefs of the respective offices assured them of forwarding the memorandum to the top level.
They have also formed an 11-member struggle committee under the convenorship of central member of All Nepal Peasants' Federation Benu Prasad Shiwakoti to pile pressure on the government to scrap the decision.
