KATHMANDU: The UCPN-Maoist and United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) will try hard today, to make the Nepali Congress (NC) and the CPN-UML agree, understand, and realise validity of the government’s decision to register a bill on the extension of the term of Constituent Assembly (CA).
The government on Tuesday late evening registered a bill at the Parliament Secretariat even pushing aside reservations expressed by the NC and CPN-UML over government's proposal and equally snubbing a Supreme Court order.
CA’s current tenure is set to expire on May 27.
A meeting of the four major political forces is due to take place in a while, where the UCPN- Maoist and UDMF will endeavour to convince top guns from NC and UML who have not only expressed reservation over the proposal of CA’s tenure extension but even a question is haunting them: whether to support the government move or not, as both the parties are partners in the coalition, which is said to be a unity government formed to carry on till a constitution is delivered.
If Parliament passes the bill(which is very likely) it will be the fifth extension of the CA, even though it was originally elected for a two-year term.
