HETAUDA/KATHMANDU: An Agni Air passenger plane crashed in Bastipur, Shikharapur VDC of Makawanpur district on Tuesday morning killing all 14 people on board.

The victims include six foreigners-- four Americans, one Briton and one Japanese, and other Nepalis inlcuding three crew members.

The crew included captain Laxman P.B Shah, co-pilot Sofia Singh and airhostess Sahara Sherpa.

The flight took off for Lukla of Solukhumbu from Kathmandu at 7:05 a.m. and was diverted back to Kathmandu after failing to land there due to adverse weather conditions. The aircraft lost contact with the airport terminal at 7:26 a.m.

According to preliminary information the accident occurred due to a technical snag in the engine.

Security personnel are heading to the incident site for rescue operations, said the locals adding that heavy torrential rains since yesterday and fog have been hampering rescue attempts.

The accident site is a four hour walking distance from the district headquarters Hetaunda.
