20-yr-old Ranjana crowned Miss Magar

POKHARA: Twenty-year-old Ranjana Thapa Magar of Tanahu, Dulegaunda was crowned Miss Magar on July 9 at the second Miss Magar contest. Ranjana trumped 22 Magar beauties to wear the crown.

Anita Thapa Magar (21) became the first runner-up, while Shanti Talija Magar was the second runner-up and Menaka Thapa Magar third runner-up.

Along with the titles, the winners also won cash prizes. The winner took home Rs 25,000, the first and second runners-up Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively.

Ranjana won the panel of judges with her view that there should be conservation and promotion of Magar language, culture along with the identity. She focused on maintaining ethnic harmony between people.

A student of Class XII, Ranjana is doing fashion designing.

Out of 23 contestants, 15 were selected for the first round and seven for the second round where the winner was declared after the competitors answered queries put forth by the judges.

Miss Mongol Nepal 2011 Sapana Roka Magar, film director and central general secretary at Nepal Magar Association Nabin Roka Magar, and Managing Director of Radio Waling and Principal at Pioneer College Guman Singh Rana Magar were on the panel of judges.

Participants had visited different Magar communities, were groomed accordingly in personality development and competed with each other in the talent show along with others in a month long programme.

The competition was organised by the Nepal Magar Association, Kaski and Rebirth Event
