ACHHAM: The 22-hour-a-day power outage has hit life hard in this mid-western district.
The prolonged outage came after Kailash Khola Micro Hydro Project could not operate fully due to receding water level in the river feeding the plant.
Chitra Bajagai, chief of the Project, said they informed all concerned not to operate industries, mills and printing press during the power supply hours because the project cannot sustain the load. "The project cannot reduce load-shedding hour unless the water level rises in the river," added Bajagai.
Krishna Shahi, editor, Ramaroshan daily, lamented that they had to halt the daily's publication for want of power. "How can we pay the employees?" questioned Shahi.
The only community radio of the district, Ramaroshan FM, has cut its broadcasting time from 13 hours to eight hours a day.
