28 die in Kalikot bus mishap

"The bus carrying 45 passengers skidded off the road while backing up slowly to the other side of the narrow path."

KATHMANDU: A passenger bus heading to Jumla from Kalikot met a mishap last night killing 28 on board and injuring 11 others at Pakha VDC-2 of Birtamod in Sherabada of Kalikot along the Karnali Highway.

Sherabada is about 22 kms away from the district headquarters of Kalikot.

It is reported that the ill-fated bus(Na 4 Kha 6477) run by Karnali Yatayat fell 500 metres down the road and plunged into the bank of a local Tila river at 11 pm.

The bus had left Manma, the capital of Kalikot before it encountered the catastrophe.

Among the dead, 21 were men, 4 were women, and other were children.

News reports quoting Police are saying that the bus carrying 45 passengers skidded off the road while backing up slowly to the other side of the narrow path.

Rescue operation is on, a local Khadka Jung Shahi told over the phone.

Deceased are yet to be identified while injured are being rushed to the nearby hospitals for treatment. Six injured have been taken to the District Hospital in Kalikot at Manma.

Jumla and Kalikot are Nepal's most remote districts.
