An elderly person died in the fire that broke out in Matahaiya‚ and Indrapur VDCs in the district

NEPALGUNJ: Around 300 families have been displaced at different VDCs in Banke district from a fire that broke out one week ago.


The District Administration Office provided cash, Red Cross Society provided tents, blankets and utensils and UNESCO Club, Banke, provided beaten rice and molasses to the fire victims but they were not sufficient for the victims.


An elderly person died in the fire that broke out in Matahaiya, and Indrapur VDCs in the district and 275 houses and sheds were turned into ashes during a one-week period.


Similarly, fire also broke out in other VDCs and Nepalgunj Bazaar.

Officiating Chief District Officer, Chakrapani Pandey said that efforts are underway to provide additional relief to the victimised families and discussions are underway with district-level government bodies and non-government bodies for the same.


According to Chief of Nepalgunj Municipality, Ranjit Shrestha expressed sadness that the two fire engines of around two decades ago under the Municipality could not reach the incident site and even if they had reached they would not work effectively as they are in dilapidated condition.
