DAMAULI: Black flags were flown by over 900 houses in Khairenitar VDC, Tanahu, in protest against the denial by authorities to issue land ownership cards, locals said today.
Locals have been obstructing Khairenitar-Bhimad road section since Sunday. Coordinator of Unmanaged Land Problem Solution Struggle Committee, Khum Bahadur BK said that they have been compelled to stage protest programmes as the government turned a deaf ear to their problems. “We will not let vehicles ply on the road section till April 22 from six in the morning till evening,” he added.
Struggle Committee Chairperson Tej Bir Gurung said, however, that they were not obstructing ambulance, press, police and milk ferrying vehicles. Gurung said, “If our demands are not addressed by April 22, then we will resort to more protest programmes.”
Committee’s Secretary Bhadra Bahadur Khatri said that even though the land in the area was measured in 1976 and locals have been also paying the tax of land in Revenue Office, Tanahu, they have not got the land ownership cards till now.
Khatri said, “We will continue to prohibit ministers, major leaders of political parties, lawmakers, high level government officials in the area until our demands are addressed.”
