KATHMANDU: Nepal cruised to six wicket victory after defeating Hong Kong at the ACC Women’s Championship played at the Prem Oval Cricket Ground in Thailand on Monday.
The mid order batters secured the win for Nepal putting two crucial partnership after losing early wickets.
When Nepal came to bat after restricting Hong Kong for a small total, they had a shaky start losing both the openers for a duck. Madhu Thapa was bowled by Mariko Hill and Sita Magar was unlucky to be run out.
Roshani Bohara too struggled with the pace, and lofted an easy catch to Yip Sze Wan off Ishitaa Gidwani’s bowiling. She scored just a run.
Sarita Magar played cautiously putting 33 run partnership with Nary Thapa for the fourth wicket. She scored 14 runs off 43 balls
The 16 unbeaten runs partnership for the fifth wicket between Nary Thapa and Skipper Rubina Chhetry guided Nepal to the fourth win of the tournament.
Thapa scored not out 16 runs and Chhetry was 7 runs not out to seal the victory.
With the win Nepal tops the chart of the group A with 8 points.
Mariko Hill, Ishitaa Gidwani and Tam Shun shared a wicket a piece for Hong Kong.
Earlier, Nepal restricted Hong Kong for 54 runs after bowling them out in 21.4 overs.
The innings started perfect for Nepal. After winning the toss the decision to field first proved fruitful as the pitch assisted the bowlers.
Hong Kong started their innings cautiously putting 23 runs for the first wicket partnership. Openers Yip Sze Wan and Chan Ka Ying scored 14 and 12 respectively to give a solid foundation to the Hong Kong innings.
After that nobody else resisted to Nepal bowling, as they crumbled without even getting to the double figures.
On the bowling side, Sarita Magar was pick of the bowlers. She picked 4 wickets for 13 runs in her allotted 5 overs. Likewise, Nary Thapa picked 3 wickets for 14 runs in 5 overs with two maidens.
Karuna Bhandari stunned the Hong Kong lower order batters claiming three wickets in just 10 balls bowled after conceding only two runs.
