LALITPUR: The All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) today announced a 29-member preliminary squad for Nehru Cup International Football Tournament scheduled for August 22 to September 2 in New Delhi.
Among the players called, 13 were chosen from the U-22 squad that had participated in the AFC U-22 Championships Group ‘D’ Qualifiers that was held in Kathmandu last month.
U-22 skipper Bharat Khawas, Sabindra Shrestha, Bikash Singh Chhetry, Sujal Shrestha, Shiva Shrestha, Anil Ojha, Rabin Shrestha, Bikesh Kuthu, Rupesh KC, Dinesh Thapa Magar, Rohit Chand, Deepak Bhusal, Jagjit Shrestha were selected for the closed camp training which will begin here from Sunday.
Others making the cut were Kiran Chemjong, Bikash Malla and Ritesh Thapa. Sagar Thapa, Sandip Rai, Biraj Maharjan, Jitendra Karki, Anil Gurung, Santosh Sahukhala, Bhola Silwal, Jumanu Rai, Raju Tamang, Tanka Basnet, Ganesh Lawati, Nirajan Khadka and Bijay Gurung.
Apart from Nepal and hosts India, Syria, Cameroon and Maldives are participating in the event. Nepal got the chance to make debut in one of the prestigious tournaments of India following Kenya’s withdrawal. Krishna Thapa has been named the coach. Thapa will be assisted by former national team skippers Hari Khadka and Upendra Man Singh.
