BIRATNAGAR: Different organisations today started collecting donation to free Suraj Wasti (24) of Urlabari who had been held captive in Biratnagar-based Neuro Hospital for not paying his hospital dues amounting to Rs 3.5 lakhs.

News about his captivity in the hospital was published in The Himalayan Times on Monday. After the publication of the news CPN-UML sister wing and Youth Association (YA) have started collecting donation so that Suraj could return home after paying the dues.

YA district vice-chairperson Mukesh Budhathoki said that they have started a campaign to collect donation after reading news about Suraj’s captivity due to his family’s financial crisis. He said, “All cadres have been involved in the campaign to collect donation for Suraj.” The association said that they would hand over the collected amount to the Suraj’s family members once the campaign was over.

In the meantime, Biratnagar-based New Life Fellowship Improvement House has announced Rs 5,000 for Suraj on Tuesday.

Similarly Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Urlabari, has started collecting donations for Suraj from today. According to Suraj’s brother-in-law Ramesh Bhattarai, an all-party meeting was conducted in coordination with CCI chairperson Keshav Karki and the organisation had collected Rs 36,000 from the participants of the meeting. In the past too, CCI had collected funds for the treatment of Suraj.

Suraj was admitted to the Neuro Hospital after he was hit by a van in Urlabari on February 11. Brother Prakash said that the hospital had asked them to clear Suraj’s medical expenses and take him home 15 days ago, but they could not take him home as they were unable to clear dues.
