The fare from Surkhet to Jumla and Nepalgunj is highest across the country though the flights are less time consuming.

JUMLA: Though the government has agreed to provide special discount to the people of all district of Karnali zone and Bajura district of Seti Zone in petroleum products, private airline companies making flights to Jumla have hiked the air fare recently.

The fare from Surkhet to Jumla and Nepalgunj is highest across the country though the flights are less time consuming.

According to former central member of the Federation of Nepali Journalists, Gauri Kathayat, the people of Karnali have been agitating against the airline companies’ decision to hike the fare but their demands were rarely addressed by the authorities concerned.

Chairman of Jumla Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Govinda Shahi, said that they were compelled to withdraw the protest programmes launched against the price hike decision in the past due to the rising number of patients in Karnali. He added the private airline companies even stopped the flights after the agitations.

Now the fare to Nepalgunj from Jumla has reached Rs 4,100 from Rs 2,900 while charge of chartered flight has reached Rs 6,100 in discount.
