KATHMANDU: Hindu devotees across the country observed Akshya Tritiya, a significant date in the Hindu lunar calendar today.

Akshya Tritiya is known as the golden day of eternal success.

Hindus celebrated the festival by having jauko saatu (a preparation from barley flour), and honey.

They also visited Shiva temples in their respective localities throughout the country.

Thousand of people thronged Pashupatinath Temple in Kathmandu, while a fair was organised at Dholeshwor Mahadev Temple, Sipadole VDC in Bhaktapur.

Hindus believe in auspicious timings in every step of life whether for beginning a new venture or making an important purchase.

Akshaya Tritiya is an occasion, considered most auspicious in the Hindu Calendar. It is believed, any meaningful activity started on this day will be fruitful.

Akshaya Tritiya falls on the third day of the full moon of Baishakh month (mid-April to mid-May), according to the lunar calendar. It occurs only once a year when the Sun and the Moon are in exaltation simultaneously and at the peak of their brightness.
