In a statement issued here today, Minister Barshaman Pun has called the Joint Struggle Committee to come for a dialogue at the Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction.

A five-member talks team has also been formed as part of the present Government's policy to address all the just demands and concerns of the people through the medium of dialogue and talks, and consensus, it is stated in the statement.

It may be noted that the joint struggle committee comprising the Chettri Samaj Nepal, Brahmin Samaj Nepal, Thakuri Samaj Federation Nepal, Nepal Dashanami Samaj and others have called for a two-day bandh starting tomorrow, in order to exert pressure on the Government in fulfilling their demand of enlisting them too as indigenous groups of Nepal.

Oh ya Mr. Sirtung? The conflict that maoists initiated was against 'economic' disparity and not at all against 'caste' system. The most oppressed ones are the Dalits who were not only discriminated by the ruling class (as you said) but equally by the Janajatis alike. Moreover, there are more than 100 castes in Nepal. It is true that you guys-Gurungs,Magars,Limbus,tharus and Tamangs are stronger than others. So, you are trying your best to impose your superiority over others. Nepal already has 48% reservation.Brahmin/Chhetris haven't objected to that.Come on man, will you agree that social justice can be done through other measures than just dividing the country on the basis of 'stronger' ethnic groups which is sure to bring more conflicts in the country. Rajan, Nepal

This is hypocrisy!! Bahun-chettri are out crying for reservation? True is that we are expecting the nation to go for reconstruction which will ensure good for the greatest number of people. Also, true is that this nation can only escape potential conflict by guaranteeing federal provinces for the madheshi, janajati and dalit communities. One can not bunk the historical reality that this nation has witnessed an unbearable hegemony of so-called higher castes over Others. Such stark truth is unacceptable only for a handful of bigot. Actually, the nation was mired not only in class inequality but also in caste inequality. For centuries, bahun-chettri enjoyed privileged position in Nepalese society whatever their location was in the economic, geographic and intellectual bar graph. A landless bahun-chhetri reserved the high-class status whereas a well-heeled lower caste of the same society was forced to live life of destitute. From the center to the remote hamlets, this anomaly was prevalent. Bahun-chhetri always entertained centrality disregarding their economic and geographic location. It is not surprising that the ruling class (the higher cast) will grudge over bringing in the ruled one into the center. To suppress the 'lower-castes' and to maintain status quo, many drama will be orchestrated. Thus, a drastic social reform is in demand due to the exigent circumstances. Federating nation in various autonomous states for the discriminated and marginalized communities will assure economic as well as social reconstruction. k. Sirtung, Kirtipur
