KATHMANDU: The Australian Embassy, under its Direct Aid Programme 2011-12, has provided assisatnce worth Rs 9.48 million for seven different organisations to conduct several development activities.
The Australian Ambassador to Nepal, HE Susan Grace signed the agreements with Nepal Network for Cancer Treatment and Research, Nepal Eye Programme, Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology and Shree Achane Higher Secondary School, Dhading for different purposes.
Likewise, Himalayn Rescue Association, Kathmandu got AUD 9,333 to renovate its aid post in Manang and AUD 20,000 was given to Siddhi Memorial Foundation, Bhaktapur to set up a neo-natal intensive care unit.
Similarly AUD 19,660 was provided to National Media Development Centre, Kathmandu to conduct capacity-building training to journalist in five locations across the country and AUD 17,430 to Kumbheswar Primary School, Lalitpur to purchase equipment for its technical training school.
The Australian government has announced an estimated Rs 2 billion (AUD26.6 million) in official development assistance to Nepal in 2011-12.
