KATHMANDU: An awareness programme on waste management was organised for Nepali and South Korean students in the Capital today.

Hira Bahadur Karki, president of Green Nepal, a non-government organisation, said the students were oriented on the segregation and disposal of biodegradable and non-degradable waste. Around 350 students from Gokarneshwor Secondary School and Subarna Sikshya Secondary School and 54 students from South Korea had participated in the programme. Karki expressed hope that the programme will be useful in conservation of the environment in general and the Bagmati River in particular. He said they collected around six truckloads of garbage from the nearby Gokarneshwor temple today. During Kushe Aushi, offsprings offer pinda to their deceased parents and Gokana is one of the popular places for this ritual. He also assured to continuously monitor the students’ activities to support the clean Bagmati campaign. Green Nepal has been organising various environment initiatives, including afforestation.
