KATHMANDU: A trader who was severely injured when an unidentified man opened fire at him in Khichapokhari in downtown Kathmandu succumbed to injuries at the Bir Hospital on Sunday evening.
Police identified the victim as Anjani Kumar Chachan, also known as Pappu, who dealt on leather bags.
Chachan breathed his last during the course of his treatment at the hospital, according to police. He sustained at least two bullet injuries in the abdomen region.
Soon after the incident, police reached the site. However, the assailant managed to escape, taking advantage of the power outage and the hustle and bustle in the busy market area.
Following the shooting, police have sealed off the area and the security has been beefed up in the neighbourhood in order to hunt down the assailant.
