KATHMANDU: Chairman of Krishna Pauroti (Bakery), Ghanashyam Rajkarnikar has welcomed the road widening drive being carried out by the Kathmandu Metropolitan City at different places of Kathmandu.

However, he has denounced what he called the police high-handedness and intimidation in the course of carrying out the road widening works wherein private houses and shops have to be pulled down.

Rajkarnikar complained that he was given just half an hours' time to vacate his bakery on December 17.

Before the building was crumbled down by the authorities we did not had enough time to pull out all the goods inside the building.

However, some other houses in the locality encroaching the road have not been pulled down, he rued.

In a press release, Rajkarnikar requested the authorities to give at least a day's time to the general public to evacuate their houses and businesses before demolishing the buildings, in a bid to widen roads.

Krishna Pauroti is one of the oldest bakeries in town.
