KATHMANDU: Top leaders of the major political parties have expressed grave concerns over the incidents of attack on press by the agitating activists of Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (NEFIN) during their nation-wide strike.
During the Monday’s meeting of four major political parties—the UCPN-Maoist, the Nepali Congress (NC), the CPN-UML, and the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF), big wigs said the deliberate attack on media to forcibly impose bandh, will bear nothing other than fueling the ethnic riots.
They also urged NEFIN to call off their bandh at the earliest.
NC President Sushil Koirala damned NEFIN General Secretary Ang Kaji Sherpa’s remarks to finish off journalists as an irresponsible comment, which would only promote ethnic tensions, and urged the agitating ethnic groups to withdraw their protest programmes.
NEFIN is protesting from streets for ethic federalism.
CPN-UML senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal also ridiculed the attack on press and admonished Maoists not to display the double standards by placing their man at helm.
CPN-UML has been blaming that UCPN-Maoist is assisting NEFIN’s cadres.
NC senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba is also saddened by the attack on media.
