DHANGADHI: Those pitching for undivided far-west today took out a motorbike rally along the Dhangadhi-Chisapani section of the East-West Highway, calling for parties to ensure that far-west remains undivided while they carve out federal units.

The rally, which began from Dhangadhi at about 8:30 in the morning, saw as many as 4,000 motorbikes taking part.

The rally, said to be the biggest in far-west to date, later converted into corner meetings at different places.

Participants of the rally shouted slogans in favour of intact far-west. Speaking at a mass meet held at Karnali bridge, Nepali Congress Doti district president Bir Bahadur Balayar warned of severe consequences if leaders spoke or decided against undivided far-west. UML leader Prem Ale, former parliamentarian Ganga Bahadur Kunwar and others also spoke in favour of undivided far-west region.

But today’s rally also could not remain peaceful. It was learnt that while on their way back from the rally, some demonstrators vandalised a Maoist office at Chauraha in Dhangadhi. According to Ganesh Saud, a local, rally participants also made an attempt to torch a gate built by the Maoist party at Chaumala. Similarly, a struggle committee formed to support the undivided far-west today launched a signature campaign to build pressure on parties not to divide far-west. The signatures will be submitted to District Administration Office tomorrow.
