Bird flu in Kailali

DHANGADHI: District Livestock Office, Kailali, said on Wednesday that bird flu has been confirmed in a local poultry farm in the district. Dr Binay Kumar Karna, Chief of District Livestock Office, said bird flu was confirmed in a poultry farm owned by Diplal Chaudhary at Gadariya VDC of Samchaur. Samples had been sent to Kathmandu for laboratory tests on Tuesday after deaths of fowls were reported in Chaudhary’s farm.

Dr Karna said his office has also sent a team to Gadariya to cull chickens and destroy eggs and other poultry products. More than 400 fowls and chicks were culled, he said. A meeting of the District Livestock Coordination Committee chaired by the chief district officer on Tuesday had stopped short of confirming bird flu in the area. Dr Karna said teams from his office were on heightened vigilance to curb bird flu spread.
