KATHMANDU: Birgunj Youth Academy jumped to the top spot of the Martyrs Memorial Red Bull ‘B’ Division League table defeating Samajik Youth Club 1-0 here on Saturday. Nishan Nepali scored the solitary goal in the 28th minute to stretch the unbeaten run of Birgunj to nine matches. Birgunj is the only undefeated team of the 15-team league. Following the result, Birgunj — who still have one match in hand — replaced Star Club from the top spot with 21 points. Second-placed Star have 20 points from 10 matches. Samajik (10) are unchanged at the 10th spot. Madhyapur Youth Association stay third with 18 points from nine matches. Meanwhile, the second match between fifth-placed Sankata Club and sixth-placed Laligurans Pulchowk Sports Club was postponed for Sunday due to technical reasons.

LALITPUR: Prashesh Maharjan contributed 16 points as BernHardt College advanced to the quarter-finals of the Professional-Gyan Carnival Inter-college (+2) Basketball Tournament defeating Liverpool 37-30. The second consecutive victory meant, BernHardt finished Group ‘C’ winners. Golden Gate International College, National and Xavier International College recorded victories in other league round matches. Golden Gate overwhelmed Einstein 81-48 with Prakash Gurung netting 26 points, Kebal Sunuwar posted 17 points as National saw off Trinity 54-48 and Xavier International cruised to a 71-44 win over Campion riding on 34 points from Binesh Neupane. Nobel dispatched BernHardt 44-23 in the girls’ section.
GEMS beat Ace
KATHMANDU: Graded English Medium School (GEMS) claimed the first Saipal ‘A’ Level Meet Men’s 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament title with a 16-13 victory over Ace Institute of Management here on Saturday. Rahul Shakya scored seven points that was enough for GEMS to claim the title. Modern Indian School, meanwhile, finished third with a struggling 11-9 win over hosts Saipal.
Deneb, Innovative win
KATHMANDU: Deneb International School and Innovative Academy recorded victories in the second Valleywide Dynamic Education Activities Association (DEAN) Inter-school Senior Boys’ Basketball Tournament here on Saturday. Deneb trounced Suryodaya 62-31, while Innovative overcame Kavya 43-21. Likewise, Angels’ Lord dispatched Nava Jyoti 36-24, Galaxy Public School saw off Canvas 36-26, Teresa outplayed Suryodaya 52-23 and Nepal Central beat Emile Academy 21-11.
Gymnastics Course
LALITPUR: International Olympic Council Olympic Technical Course for Coaches in Rhythmic Gymnastics Course, organised by the Nepal Olympic Committee-recognised Nepal Gymnastics Association, began here on Saturday. In all, 40 coaches are participating in the course to be conducted by the experts from the International Gymnastics Federation Nadia Aleksadrova.
