KATHMANDU: The Constituent Assembly meeting scheduled for today was postponed till Thursday after the major parties could not reach any agreement on contentious constitutional issues within the deadline given by the CA Business Advisory Committee.
A notice was put up saying today’s CA meeting has been adjourned till Thursday. BAC had given the parties till Sunday to reach consensus on constitutional issues. “Due to special reason CA Chairman Subas Chandra Nembang adjourned the planned 121st CA meeting till Thursday as per BAC’s recommendation,” the notice, issued by Manohar Prasad Bhattarai, Secretary General of Parliament, read. The meeting was, in fact, adjourned after the parties failed to reach an understanding on key constitutional issues within the deadline set by BAC. BAC had decided that all the disputed issues of constitution would be decided through a voting process if the parties could not reach understanding by Sunday.
“The Problem Resolution Sub-Committee decided to seek three more days to find consensus on constitutional issues,” said Nepali Congress leader Ramchandra Paudel, adding that they would hold high-level political discussions till tomorrow and, then, the CC and its Sub-Committee meeting would give the finishing touches to the agreements.
