KATHMANDU: The Constituent Assembly's Constitutional Committee on Wednesday decided to seek time till Friday to resolve the contentious issues in the new constitution.
The extended deadline to resolve the issues through a consensus among the parties is expiring today.
The CC meeting held at its office in Singha Durbar concluded with an understanding that more efforts should be made to reach the consensus.
"The CC meeting has sought two more days to resolve the prickly issues related to statute drafting," said UCPN-M leader and lawmaker Khim Lal Devkota after the meeting.
The Constituent Assembly scheduled for Monday was postponed in order to provide time to the major political forces to settle the issues by today.
The CC's Problem Resolution Sub-Committee of Constitutional Committee had recommended the CA to provide three more days for a consensus. As per the Business Advisory Committee's decision the CA meeting is set for tomorrow.
Meanwhile, the joint meeting of major three parties and United Democratic Madhesi Forum set for this morning could not be convened owing to the busy schedule of top leaders. It has been said that the meeting will be held this afternoon to discuss the crucial issue of state restructuring.
