Call to save democracy

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Secretary Shankar Pokhrel has stressed the need for unity among the democratic powers and a new movement for ‘fighting against despotism’ seen of late. Addressing the second district convention of the party’s Janakpur zonal coordination committee today, Pokhrel accused the incumbent government of showing autocratic tendencies and underlined the need for joint efforts to protect democracy.
Defending the ongoing anti-government protests, Pokhrel said they are intended to encourage the UCPN-Maoist to join hands with other parties for the promulgation of a pro-people constitution. UML leader Gangalal Tuladhar said activities of the UCPN-Maoist are to blame for a prolonged
transition.
