KATHMANDU: “There are many firsts that the BBC Media Action Nepal has achieved today — the launch of music CD Ringdai Ghumdai, two music videos, the book Katha Mitho Sarangiko Bhalakusari and agreement with Radio Nepal to broadcast our programme through their transmission. The programme is a celebration of drama Katha Mitho Sarangiko,” expressed Christian Clark, Country Director of BBC Media Action Nepal, on June 28.
At the programme, organised by BBC Action Media, it was informed that the drama series Katha Mitho Sarangiko broadcast since 2008 and Radio Magazine Sarangiko Bhalakusari since 2010 is coming again with new dramas and talks on the theme of ‘Good Governance’ from June 29 onwards and closing on the theme of ‘Gender Based Violence’.
According to Clark, Katha Mitho Sarangiko is based on folk music and Gandarbha tradition of telling stories where the actors are selected from real locations who are facing the problem. He added, “The drama concept is to raise the important issue in different communities and inspire people to decide what is right and wrong.”
Pushpa Basnet, founder of Early Childhood Development Centre and the nominee of CNN Hero 2012, launched the book and the music album.
The album Ringdai Ghumdai includes 16 songs written, sung and composed by Prakash Gandarbha on the themes of love, brotherhood, marriage, life and friendship. Moreover, the book Katha Mitho Sarangiko Bhalakusari compiles a full transcript of 15 selected stories and interviews transmitted in the previous season.
Khagendra Lamichhane, acting editor of drama explained, “We published the book for documentation of our drama and we hope that it will inspire and encourage others to create drama in future. It will be a guide to know how radio dramas are written.”
