Along with 25 members and four teachers we participated in the 29th APR and Sri Lanka Centenary Scout Jamboree which took place in Dambulla, Sri Lanka from April 1 to 6.
The Scout troop left St Xavier’s premises at around 11:00 am on March 31 for the airport. We departed from Nepal at around 2:40 pm. We had three hours transit at Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi for Sri Lanka. We left Delhi around 7:10 pm. We reached Colombo at 10:00 pm. We were welcomed by Sri Lankan ISTs at around 12:00 midnight. Then we took a three-hour bus ride to our camp.
On April 1 we were welcomed by Kelani Sub-Camp Chief KHK Perera. There were also four other sub-camps. We were divided into our respective tents. We were given all necessities. We needed to cook ourselves.
The inauguration of 29th APR Jamboree was done by Sri Lankan President. They were participants form Sri Lanka, Nepal, India, Hong Kong, Thailand, Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, Japan, Taiwan and Indonesia. All together there were 5,000 Scouts and Guides present there.
During the Jamboree, we participated in cultural shows, inner and outer activities like iron man challenge, save our planet, live skill challenge, poster challenge, world heritage, APR brotherhood, et cetera. There were activities like night hike and water activities. During the grand camp fire, we performed cultural dance to represent our country.
We also visited Pankat Island, Sigriya, Dambulla, among other places. On the last day, we took a tour to Candy. We did some shopping there.
Then we had the closing ceremony where we put up a dance performance.
We, the Scouts of SXG, would like to express our gratitude to Fr Gigu, the Principal of our school for giving us the opportunity to participate in the Jamboree. We are grateful to the school administration for helping us. We would like to thank to our teachers Miss Anjali, Miss Radhika, Sanubhai Sir and Saroj Sir for guiding and taking care of us.
