LALITPUR: Shangrila Cricket Academy is organising the first Wai Wai Corporate Premier League Twenty20 Cricket Tournament under the sponsorship of Chaudhary Group on May 1-9 at the Tribhuvan University Stadium.
A total of 10 teams are taking part in the tournament which aims at raising awareness on UNICEF’s Private Public Partnership Hand Washing (PPPHW) campaign, informed the organisers today. The teams are divided into three groups and top two teams from Group A and one each from B and C will qualify for the semi-finals.
Group A consists of Everest Challengers, Global Bank, You We Rangers and Max Media, while Nepal Telecom, Private Public Partner and Yeti Airline are in Group B. Likewise, Chaudhary Group, Agni Air and UNICEF are in Group C. “All of us are wielding the bat and ball to raise awareness of the general public regarding the importance of hand washing with soap,” said Birendra Bikram Shah, Director of Shangrila Cricket Academy. “We expect a large turnout and urge everyone to help us spread the message,” he added.
Binoy Dil Lama, Coordinator of PPPHW said the main aim behind supporting the tournament was to raise the awareness through sports. “This is an event which is loved by many and we are trying to reach our target group through sports,” said Lama. “If we can spread this message to every household, we can reduce the diarrhoea and Pneumonia mortality rate by 44 per cent,” he added. “We are planning to take around 500 school students to the TU Stadium every day and make them aware of its importance.”
Binay Kumar Jha, Coordinator of the Technical Committee of the tournament, said they were looking forward to the successful event and the PPP campaign. “We have joined hands for a noble cause and hope the event will be successful in supporting the Private Public Partner campaign,” he said.
