Dahal meets Prez‚ assures consensus

KATHMANDU: As a chairperson of the largest party in the dissolved Constituent Assembly and the party leading the incumbent government, Unified CPN-Maoist chief Pushpa Kamal Dahal has expedited talks with the leaders of the major parties.

Dahal also called on President Ram Baran Yadav today, and informed him about the positive developments so far.

Talking with reporters after meeting President, Dahal said he wanted to meet President prior to their group meeting with him along with other leaders of the country.

Expressing concern over the political deadlock in the country President Yadav had enquired Dahal about the latest political developments and the efforts of the leaders to forge consensus.

In turn, Dahal told President that the latest dialogues among the top leaders of the major parties have been heading towards a positive direction and could forge consensus soon.

Sources at the Shital Niwas claimed that Dahal had assured President that the nation would witness consensus among the parties within two weeks.

Rajendra Dahal, Press Advisor to President, said that the Head of the State told Dahal that the responsibility of forging consensus was now in your shoulder and therefore he should take initiation to hold dialogues with all leaders and try to forge consensus as soon as possible.

“President expressed his concerns over the political deadlock and urged me to forge consensus among the political parties to bail the country out of the current deadlock,” said Dahal told reporters following the meeting.

Earlier Dahal had met Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala at his residence in Maharajgunj this morning. Dahal said both the leaders have agreed to move ahead with a new way to forge consensus among the political parties on the conflicting issues soon.

Dahal said optimum efforts would be made during the meeting of the major parties on Wednesday morning to forge consensus and break the existing political deadlock.
